Being light because of the Light of the world!

20 Dec

This month we celebrate the coming of the Light of the world — Jesus!  We are privileged to be light in our families, our neighborhoods, our communities and our world.

Here are some worthy projects you could lend a hand to support.

1.  In our local community there is an elderly widow raising her three grandchildren along with income from a small catering business.  She lives here in Chula Vista.  We heard about her need through one of our community networks.  If you would like to contribute clothes for the children ages 4, 7 and 9, you can bring them to Concordia and contact for more info.

2.  Silent Voices in Chula Vista crisis pregnancy center (  Assist a young mom during Christmas time.  Diapers are a big need.  Find other ways to serve by contacting Melisssa Salomon at

3.  There are many families right here in Chula Vista that need a helping hand.  Donate canned or dry goods to help a families in need.  Here at Concordia we have a distribution tub.  You could contribute through the week from 6:30am to 6pm or on Sundays from 8:30 to noon.  For more information ask

We are always scouting new opportunities to do good in our community.  Let me know of ways you are serving and places where we also can do good!

Camarena Guitar Students have their own guitar inspiration site

18 Nov

Supporting their weekly lessons, we have launched a new inspiration blog for the Camarena guitar students.  Not only will they get to review their weekly lessons but they will be inspired by great guitarists through video clips and the like.

Check it out!

Serving next door at the Camarena Elementary School

29 Oct

We are so glad to serve in our community!  When the new Camarena Elementary School opened and we heard of Principal Dan Winters’ dream to have a Camarena after school program that would be free of charge to the Camarena families and provide a whole spectrum of enriching activities, we knew that we could help!  Our new music director, Andres Salomon finished his studies in music and his principal instrument is guitar and we knew that he would be a great resource for a guitar program!  He is teaching more than 60 students from the 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade classes.

The students are enthusiastic and are excited when they discover they can produce music on their guitars. Every new class brings learning and the students are eager to learn and hope to master the guitar one day!

Concordia is grateful to be of service!  We know we can contribute what we have to making our community strong and healthy.  It is a good thing.

Serving a military family

1 Oct

Military families are special to us at Concordia.  They serve us and we try to find ways to serve them.  We were privileged to assist a family that paid the ultimate sacrifice in that service. We also shared this tribute with our Concordia community and extended network.  Join us in this tribute.

Quilt of love and prayers for healing

29 Jun

The 160 children of Concordia preschool prayed for healing as they tied knots on a little quilt made specially for little Lyric who is fighting cancer in a hospital far away.  This is a beautiful way to show children compassion for another child who they will likely never meet.

Volunteer at Touch A Truck!

Do you have a heart for giving, a joyful disposition, and a desire to help make a difference in the lives of children battling deadly childhood cancers? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Events like this don’t come together by magic, although, it can seem that way when you’re working with incredible people we refer to as our Volunt-heroes.

Planning and production are still well underway and we could use more manpower to help us make it to the finish line successfully. We are also looking for dedicated adults to help the day of the event. If you have the desire to give of your time and talents, we’d love to be on the receiving end.

Check out the needs below and let us know where you would like to help.
